The children leaned about gravity and friction by designing their own marble runs.
They learned:
The angle of the ramps affects the speed of the marble run by making it go faster or slower. They created friction by putting glue or sandpaper or bumpy paper on the track. Nearly everyone had to add barriers to the edges of the tracks to stop their marbles falling off.

Marble Runs Challenge
Welcome to Week 5
Hi everyone!
Today is crosscountry day. Puriri will be running in the middle block starting at 11.30am

The school focus for the next two weeks is:

Tomorrow is the last day for sending back the permission slips for the zoo. If your child has misplaced their notice you can send along a note.
We are starting to collect a few pieces of clothing in our class, known as lost property. Can you please check your child is not missing a blue long sleeved tshirt or a stripey sock. Both are definitely from our class.
Have a wonderful week!

Wonderful Week Two
Ata marie everyone!
FORCES:
Our science topic on Forces has started with some WOW activities. Here is a clip of Bitner and Matilda with an air pressure activity.

This week we are designing marble runs using cardboard and glue guns. By making these runs they are learning about gravitational force and friction and how they affect the speed an object moves. Sounds technical?? Ask your child about it.
CLASS PHOTOS:
Order forms for class photos have been given out. Please ask your child if you have not received your envelope from them yet.
ARTS ROTATION:
Today was our first day of the Puriri Arts Rotation. Each Tuesday we will focus on a different Arts strand. For Week 2 and 3 Room 8 will focus on Drama. Click on the links below to view some clips I took of the groups being a "fried breakfast".

CROSS COUNTRY:
Training has started. The children will be running every Monday morning at 10.25am and every Thursday morning at 11.20am. Please have them wear sandshoes to run in. We will not run if it is raining.
Have a great week everyone!!
Congratulations to everyone who filled in their reading log over the holidays!!

WELCOME BACK FOR TERM 2
Hi everyone!!!!
It is so good to see some smiling faces this morning.
We made the most of the day and learnt about ANZAC Day. As it was our turn to lead the Puriri assembly we were able to share our learning with the team. I have attached this clip on ANZAC DAY for you to view.

CONGRATULATIONS to Lucas for his outstanding problem solving in Maths. He is our Duffy book recipient for this week.
SCIENCE IN A VAN is tomorrow (Tuesday 2 May). The cost is only $3 and the show is the introduction to our science focus for this term. Unfortunately those children who do not pay will not be able to attend the show.
NEWSLETTERS went home today. Please check your child's bag.
HOME LEARNING went home today. All the children have been given reading to complete. Please check your child's bag. Home learning is due on Friday.
Have a wonderful week!

UPDATE FOR WEEK 10
PURIRI TEAM CERTIFICATES:
Congratulations to Anjola for his wonderful ideas he has shared during our poetry writing time.
Congratulations to Anjola for his wonderful ideas he has shared during our poetry writing time.
CLASS PHOTOS:
Our class photos are tomorrow (Wednesday 5 April). The children need to come neatly dressed for this.
HEADLICE:
Unfortunately we have headlice in our classroom. Yesterday I sent home a note with all the children and I would appeciate it if you could all check your children's hair daily for the next 3 weeks. If you do find the lice or the eggs please help by using the advice on the notice I sent home.
LEARNING DISCUSSIONS:
These are next Tuesday and Wednesday. Please book in a time on line or send me a note to do it for you (Give me 2 - 3 time slots you would prefer as you may not get your first choice). These discussions will be led by your child so they need to be at the meeting to talk about their learning.
Have a great week!
