ARE YOU READY?

It was wonderful to see everyone today! 
This morning the children noticed that the teachers were dressed as explorers and there were vintage cars in the carpark. This was all part of the provocation for our theme for this year - "Whakatoomene:explore or discover." Pop in and read our thoughts and wonderings wall display.

This car was made in 1960.

This Ford was very popular, especially the horn.

Some of the cars were similar but were made by different companies.

Not all the vehicles were cars.

Why are the headlights on this car taped over?

  This term everyone needs to bring a hat, water bottle and healthy lunch.

We will also be swimming most days so please check that your child's togs are in their bag each day. If your child is not swimming please send along a note.
Please remember to name clothes so they can be returned to your child. I recommend using the Vivid marker in the stationery pack to name clothes and stationery.

Home Learning consists of mainly reading each night. The best way to improve our reading is by reading. All the children will bring a book home tomorrow. All other home learning will be optional because many of the children have after school commitments. 

Help wanted - If you have time to help out in class e.g. maintaining our garden with a group of children, returning books to the book room, listening to readers, sharing a talent you have, etc we would appreciate your help. 
We also have a maker's space for the children to create and make. If you have small cardboard boxes, tubes, construction tools eg hammers, nails & small wood offcuts we can have, please send them along.

The first school newsletter went home today. Please check the school website or the app if you did not get a hardcopy today. Stationery lists were also sent home today.

OUR 2020 ADVENTURE STARTS HERE

Welcome to everyone new to Room 21's blog space for 2020. We are a Year 4 class of 28 children and we invite you to follow our blog throughout this year to read about our discoveries.

Beach Ed Reminder for Monday

2019 BEACH ED REMINDER NOTICE 

FOR MONDAY 2 DECEMBER

Please check your child has:

* Togs	* Sun hat & Sunscreen	* Towel
* Shoes that are easy to get on / off	* Warm sweatshirt
* Water bottle with water ( 2 would be great!)	* Healthy snacks and lunch

                                        

It is important that you get your child to school before 8.55am. 

We recommend that you put sunscreen on your child prior to the trip. Teachers will have
sunscreen with them as well.

A decision will be made as to whether the children will enter the water depending on the
water quality at Pt Chev Beach each day. All “beach activities” will be based on the sand.

All adult helpers travelling by bus meet in our classroom at 8.55am. If travelling by car,
please confirm with Glenn Presnell prior to the trip. You may be able to carpool with other
parents. (Maria will already be at Pt Chev setting up)

Please check the school app for cancellations due to weather.

Tread Lightly

Last week we were visited by the Tread Lightly Van. They taught us about what should go down the drains. 

• Did you know only rain should go down the drain on our footpaths and kerbs? These drains go to the ocean so any rubbish that ends up in the drains goes into streams and eventually to the ocean. 
• Did you know that nappy liners and baby wipes should go in the bin not down the toilet? Yes it says that some brands are flushable BUT not in NZ.
• Did you know that cooking oil clogs drains? The best way to dispose of oil is to collect it in a plastic bottle as you use it and when the bottle is full then you put it in the bin.
• Did you know that dental floss clogs drains? It gets snagged on the pipes and can block them. Better to put it in the bin.

We learned much more about drains and what is good for our waterways and wetlands. Just ask us.

We made pledges to keep too!
