Week One

Fakalofa lahi atu

This week is Niuean Language Week and we will be learning some Niuean phrases and a little about the culture. Click on the image to find the phrases we will be learning:
Last week Kelly Sports came into school and took the children for games. Sadly it rained on our day but the class were still able to enjoy the indoor activities that Kelly Sports provided. Here is a photo of the class playing silent ball.

Congratulations to everyone who completed your holiday reading logs. Fairy Judy was very impressed!

Congratulations, also, to Xavier and Sophia who were chosen by the class as well deserving recipients of last week's "Caught Being Good" certificates at our Puriri Assembly. We are very proud of these two role models of manaakitanga 😀.

On Wednesday our class has scooter training. Please bring your scooter and helmet to school on that day. All scooters will be locked in the pool area after we have used them.

Please remember to send back all Athletics Day notices before Friday.

Have a great week!!

WELCOME BACK TO TERM 4

Nau mai haere mai tatou! Welcome back everyone!

The class was buzzing with excitement this morning as the children caught up with their classmates. It was wonderful to hear about the different activities they had been doing during the holiday break.

One piece of really exciting news was that Lochie competed in the Ngauruhoe Ski Club Junior Ski Race and won the Under 10 boys division. We are very proud of your achievement Lochie and wish you all the best for your next competition.

A few reminders for this term:

  • Holiday reading logs are due by this Wednesday at the very latest.

  • Everyone must wear a hat and be sunsmart this term. Remember to name it.

  • Home learning will continue to focus on Reading. Please remember to record your reading in your reading log. Reading logs are checked on Fridays.

  • Scooter Training is next Wednesday. Bring your scooter and helmet along.

  • We have our Athletics Day on Tuesday 3 November.

  • Cultural Group practises are on Thursdays and Fridays.

  • Niuean Language Week is next week and Tokelauan Language Week is in Week 3. If you have something you would like to share about either of these cultures please come along and share with us.

Have a great week everyone!

End of Term 3

This term flew past so quickly with the Level 2 Lockdown interrupting our learning programmes. We did manage to revisit a lot of the work that had been posted on our blog during Lockdown, to review our learning and allow those who didn’t have access to see what we had been doing. Physical distancing meant a lot of our group based, collaborative learning did not take place and a lot of our sports was cancelled.

However, we did gain an extra week of Garden to Table! We would like to thank all our adult volunteers who helped make it so much fun and a special thank you goes to Sarah and Richard, our G2T specialists.

We also acknowledged Tongan Language Week and Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori by learning some new phrases and reading myths and legends.

We played Nga Kupu Jeopardy too.

To end the term we wrote stories for our stop motion movies which we will create next term and share on our blog. These photos show the class practising. Look how focused they are!

Duffy books and holiday reading logs were given out to everyone on the last Thursday so I’m hoping all the children are finding a bit of time, like me,  to relax over the holidays and read.

Happy holidays everyone!

Welcome Back To School - Concept With Funny Cartoon Character... Royalty Free Cliparts, Vectors, And Stock Illustration. Image 112124294. Malo e lelei everyone.

Most of our class have rejoined us at school and we will be returning to our regular learning programmes as of tomorrow. We have spent the last week revisiting the "Learning at Home" lessons from the class blog and class building. The photos below show two of the activities from last week - Chocolate River and the Maths Trail.

If you have resources from Lockdown please return them this week so they can be "quarantined" before I return them to the resource room.

This week is Tongan Language Week. Every day we will learn a new phrase and we will spend some of our Reading time this week learning about Tongan language and culture. If you would like to visit our class to share your Tongan culture with us this week please let me know.

Garden to Table is on Wednesday in the middle block from 11.20 - 1pm. We would appreciate any help / time you can give. Last week the children made sapa sui, palusami and pineapple pancakes. Delish!!!

Lastly, everyone has Reading homework. Please encourage your child to read for at least 10 minutes every night and fill in their reading log. Reading logs are checked every Friday.

Have a great week everyone!

Class Meeting

Thank you everyone who attended our class chat this morning, I wasn't expecting so many of you. It was great to hear what you had been up to this morning in your bubbles. It was definitely a new experience for most of us! I'm looking forward to seeing you all in person next week. Until then, be kind and take care of everyone in your bubble.

I thought you might like to read this recount of our meeting that Dayelle wrote afterwards.
