DUFFY BOOKS

Today we had our official Duffy Assembly for this term. The school welcomed Madison Nonoa, a Duffy role model, who is a member of the NZ Opera and has a Bachelor of Music degree. Madison is Samoan and hails from Hamilton. It was a pleasure to listen to her sing for us today before she answered questions and presented our Duffy books to us.

Each child has been presented with 2 books which they can keep at home to read. How very lucky we are 💖💖

Race Relations Day

Wow! What an amazing celebration of diversity and unity!
The children looked wonderful in the costumes. Thanks to everyone for supporting this special day. Special thanks to Victoria for teaching the children how to make window flowers and sharing information about Chinese culture with us, and to Hamida who told the story of Sina Ma Tuna and showed the children how to crack a coconut. Great experiences!

Our Buddy Class

We are very lucky to be Room 11's buddy class this year!

We get together every Monday afternoon to read together but last week we played Maths games to help the Room 11 children practice their basic facts.

MESSAGES FOR WEEK 8

Hi everyone!

There are a couple of big events happening for us this week:
1. The whanau hui is on Thursday at 6pm. There will be spot prizes for parents.

2. Race Relations Day is on Friday. This is a special day for celebrating unity in our school
community. Please help your child dress up this Friday. Any costume or outfit from your
own culture or another culture would be wonderful. We will be having a shared lunch to
taste some of the amazing foods from around the world. I will be bringing a plate of
    Egyptian food to share.

Please sign your child's reading log each night after they have read to you. This is the best way of knowing the children are reading at home. The children are expected to read Monday to Thursday only.

Have a great week,
Maria Mudgway

Origami Afternoon

On Thursday we were very lucky to be visited by Charli's homestay student and her two friends. We spent the afternoon making some wonderful origami figures such as flapping birds, ninja stars, hearts and fortune tellers.

Thank you to Charli's mum who organized the visit.

Green, Green and More Green

Wow! There was a lot of green in our class on Friday!

We're Going Green

What an amazing week we have had!

The class decided we would find out about litter as our Green Week Inquiry. The children have produced some wonderful slides which I will share with you once they are complete. Jadarose and Matilda's slide represented our class at assembly.

Friday was Green Day, an opportunity for us to help tidy up the gardens and to run the assembly with our buddy class, Room 11. I was very proud of their performance and extra specially proud of our M.C.s Amal and Faduma, our Wonderings readers Alodia, Lillia, Charli, James and Vinnie, and Lucas who led the rap.

Congratulations to Franny, our Green Week certificate winner. I was very impressed when both Franny and Jadarose appeared at the classroom door with litter they had found in the playground this week. Well done girls 🚮

The following photos are of the class cleaning up the area behind our class.
