Week 4

Have you noticed the new tabs (pages) at the top of our blog? You can now access the Puriri Whā Site and the School's website just by clicking on the tabs. Our aim is to make our communication and your child's learning as accessible as possible.

Please remember to check your child's book bag for their reading homework. They are expected to read every night for 10 - 15 minutes. Thank you everyone who is signing reading logs 😀👍

Digital learning happens every Friday and this is when Phil visits to teach us important skills we need to using our Chromebooks as a learning tool. This week we had a Google Meet with him and learned some important expectations for when we attend Google Meets.

Have a great week everyone! Kia pai te wiki!

Cricket Skills

Last Thursday Nick, from Auckland Cricket, spent some time teaching us basic cricket skills. Catching and passing a tennis ball, throwing a ball at a wicket and hitting the ball with the flat face of the bat are all important cricket skills.

Week 3

Thank you everyone for updating your contact information with me. I will be emailing you all with the link to our Puriri Whā Year 4 site. The children will also be bringing home their email addresses and passwords. Please keep these safe in case they are needed.

Home Reading: The children are expected to read each night, from Monday - Thursday, for 10 - 15 minutes. Some children will need to practise reading to you to help improve their fluency and others can read to themselves. Please sign their reading logs each night and return them each day so books can be exchanged.

Week 2 Fun and Games

On Thursday everyone dressed as superheroes, some of us wearing capes and some of us not wearing them. This photo was taken outside our classroom under the new shade area.

We also participated in a fun tabloids afternoon where we played lots of games. It was a great opportunity to get to know each other and bond as a class.

Week 1 - 2

Congratulations everyone! Week 1 was a bit of a challenge when it came to finding somewhere dry to eat outside and remembering to pop our masks on whenever we were inside but we did it! During the week we learned a lot about each other, completed our whare which is now on the classroom wall (photo will be added tomorrow) and we learned the kawa of care for our chromebooks. Each child has their own school email address and a special password so they  can access their work from school and home - exciting!

Thank you to everyone who has organised their stationery.
We will begin using our books this week. Please do not feel obliged to buy new if you still have stationery from last year.

Happy Valentines Day everyone! Kindness is one of the best presents we can give ourselves and other people. Our class will be looking at ways we can show kindness towards others this week.

On Thursday we have a dress up event to help promote our Superheroes theme for 2022. Please support your child in creating their own superhero costume for Thursday. It can be as simple or                        as creative as you like. Repurposing old clothes or dress up toys is                        a great idea which was mentioned to me. "Not all superheroes wear                     capes." On Thursday we will also be having a tabloids afternoon for                     Puriri Team. Each class will remain in its own bubble in its own                            space. Watch for photos in our next post.

This week we also start reading as part of our home learning. My expectation is that the children read for between 10 minutes and 20 minutes a night either to someone or with someone (share the reading). Book bags will be sent home with a levelled reading book from group choosing boxes or a library book they have chosen themselves. More able readers can opt to read chapter books or non fiction books they have at home. Books can be swapped daily or your child may continue reading the same book all week. Reading logs will be checked Friday mornings.

Please feel free to comment or ask questions at the bottom of this post and I will reply asap.                                                                                Have a great Week 2 everyone!!                                      Maria
