Talofa lava

This week we celebrate Samoan Language Week (Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa)

During the week we will learn some common phrases, songs and read Samoan stories. Here are a few phrases you can practise with your aiga (family).

Manuia le aso! (Have a great day)

Congratulations

Congratulations to everyone in Room 21 who participated in our first cross country event at Owairaka Park on Friday. This year the children chose to either walk the 1.44km course or run it.

Four of our boys placed in the first 6 for Year 4 boys. Awesome running Brody (3rd), Luke (6th), Finlay (1st) and Arnie (4th)!! Brody and Finlay will both be representing us at the Eden / Albert Cross Country later this term at the Domain.

At this week's school assembly Brody and Rafin received awards for Manaakitanga and Manawanuitangs. Kia kaha to both of you.

A Week of Events

There are 3 events we will be focussing on this week.

Road Safety Week starts tomorrow. Please spend some time discussing these two questions:

Cultural Unity Day is on Tuesday. We will be celebrating the many cultures within our class and our school through the day. Please encourage your child to dress in a traditional costume or something that represents their culture eg Kiwi - swandri, black shorts and gumboots, Samoan - lavalava & shirt.
The whole school will be having a shared lunch at 12.30pm. We will brainstorm some cultural foods we can bring to share e.g. cheese rolls, samosa, sushi, pineapple, panikeke, dumplings, injera, scones, club sandwiches, rewana bread, etc. Please do not send along packets of chips, biscuits or drinks.

Pink Shirt Day
is on Friday. Our catch phrase is "Choose Kindness". We are asking the children to wear a pink t-shirt if they have one and bring a gold coin. No pink shirt? Don't worry, anything pink will do.
Last word: Congratulations to Luke and Elska who earned our School Values Certificates last week. Ka nui te pai ō mahi!

Celebrating The Arts

This term Puriri Wha classes will be participating in an Arts Rotation. For the past two weeks our class have been creating sculptures made from cardboard. Next Wednesday they will move onto Miss Mills for some Te Reo Kori.

In week 7 we will be part of the school production. If you have any old, clean plastic shopping bags, rope or fishing net that we could have for our costumes we would really appreciate it. Also each child will need to wear dark blue or black long pants. T-shirts will be supplied. Please let me know if your child is allergic to face paint.

Have a ka pai week!

Our Week 1

This week we had our first Te Reo Māori lesson with Whaea J'Aime. You can see her in this photo of us demonstrating how to peke.

We also started our Puriri Whā Arts Rotation in our own class. For the first two weeks we are creating art with cardboard. Please send any cardboard you don't want anymore so we can reuse it.

Today Fairy Judy visited and delivered our certificates and prizes for our holiday reading. Congratulations to everyone who took part ⭐⭐⭐

Tomorrow our home learning is due. Please remember to bring your book bag with your reading log and home learning book in it.

Have a great Friday!

TERM 2 BEGINS

It's great to see everyone back!
Welcome to Tesfahun, our new student, who is not in this photo from Green Week last term.

This term we have home learning. Please help your child earn points by signing their reading log every day. The children also have a list of words to practise spelling and times tables. Thank you for your support!
