Book Week

It's Book Week this week!! Room 21 will be

  • learning about 3 NZ children's authors Margaret Mahy, Lynley Dodd and Joy Cowley. If you have any of their books that we could borrow for the week we would love to be able to read them.
  • Stop, Drop and Read - sometime during each day this week we will stop what we are doing and read a book for 10 minutes.
  • Dress up as a book character on Friday. We will be brainstorming ideas throughout the week. Comic book superheroes are most welcome!

Last week's happenings:
Congratulations go to Spencer and  Kalani-Rose for being kind and helpful towards your classmates and teachers. Congratulations also to Blessing for showing manawanuitanga by being persistent and not giving up when her learning tasks become challenging. Each child chose a Duffy Book and received a "Caught Being Good Certificate. Ka pai ō mahi!

We designed our very own superhero emblems then created them out of clay. What do you think of them?

“Anyone can be smart, you just have to work at it”

Last week Room 21 discussed having a can do attitude, which is part of our Manawanuitanga value.

First the class watched a video about Growth Mindset and talked about what it means to have a "can do attitude". Next they watched a video on how to make the best paper plane. When asked if they could make the plane the responses ranged from "With some practise" ..... to "Maybe" ... to "No way!"

After watching the video again a few of the class were able to make their paper plane. They then decided that if those children who knew how to make the plane could show others then more children would have planes to fly.

Here are the results:

We learned that with practise and some help from a friend

we can do anything.

Google Meet

Thank you to everyone who joined our Google Meet today especially Xavier, Sarah, Finley, Moin and Daanya. I was super impressed at how well everyone was able to join our meeting using the email link I sent out!

Today's meeting was all about Google Meet etiquette that Phil taught us about at last week's cybersmart lesson. Well done to Nevaeh for winning the Kahoot we played about Google Meet etiquette.

Our next Google Meet is Monday at 1.45pm. See you then!
