Week 4 Photos

Our Maths focus this term has been on fractions for problem solving and  telling the time. We are also learning our times tables. Here's a photo of Group 1 problem solving group tackling a problem.

We only have one more session of Music with Mal. Last week everyone was able to play the different instruments in the room. There was a lot of noise but it was FUN!

During our topic time this week we made constellation viewers, and some of the class were able to explain how the Sun, Earth and Moon made day & night and eclipses.
Did you know that a solar eclipse is when the moon is between the Earth and the Sun and a lunar eclipse is when the Earth is between the Sun and the Moon?

Observatory Visit

In Week 3 we visited the observatory at One Tree Hill. While we were there we learned about day and night and the planets of our Solar System. Our favourite part was the theatre where we got to watch a video about the planets and the constellations. Here are some photos from the trip:

We want to hear your thoughts!

Please complete this quick questionnaire about learning with digital technologies.

Background: Owairaka has been on a journey of incorporating digital resources into a range of teaching approaches.  We aim for a blended environment where staff and students have the option to choose the best resources for the learning at the time, whether it is digital or otherwise.

Ako Hiko: Is a cluster of eight schools who work together to create equity, raise achievement and offer opportunities to all our learners. The basis of the learning is the Learn, Create and Share learning model.

Research: The Woolf Fisher Trust, a research arm of the University of Auckland, send out these annual questionnaires to give feedback to the cluster about how the digital environment helps to learn.  Woolf Fisher collects data from Year 4-6 parents as some of the other cluster schools have digital devices for all ages. The feedback we get from this survey will be specific to Owairaka as well as from the whole cluster.

We would appreciate if you could do this quick survey by Friday 24th May.

In Week 6 we will be hosting the Green Week assembly, along with our buddy class. Practise singing along with this song so you know the words off by heart. We will also practise in class.

Scooter Training Session

Today we had a scooter session with Constable Rob. We were told how to be safe with scooters and what we should avoid e.g. pot holes. We stopped at the crossing and the car. He taught us how to weave in and out of cones. We learned to glide along the court to the playground. Milo, Wilbur and Remy reached the playground and got to write their names on the ground with chalk. It was so much fun!

Into The Beyond

This term our topic is "Into The Beyond", an astronomy focus on planet Earth and beyond.
Earlier in the week we reflected on our class goals for Term 1. We also looked at our class goals for Term 2. Next week we will decide on our individual goals for this term.

Congratulations to everyone who brought back their Holiday Reading Logs!!! Fairy Judy paid us a visit on Thursday and gave out prizes.
We finally built our Mars habitats. Don't they look great? The children worked collaboratively to create them out of cardboard and masking tape.
This morning we had our first Music lesson with Mr Lakatani. We learnt that music is about listening. We were able to repeat rhythms and beats, clap to 4 beat patterns (ask us about Billy, Pa and Rest), and name different instrument groups eg string  and percussion.

Room 21 invite you to visit our classroom next Tuesday morning to see what we have been learning. Feel free to pop in any time between 8.30 and 10.30am😀
