Tread Lightly
Last week we were visited by the Tread Lightly Van. They taught us about what should go down the drains.
- Did you know only rain should go down the drain on our footpaths and kerbs? These drains go to the ocean so any rubbish that ends up in the drains goes into streams and eventually to the ocean.
- Did you know that nappy liners and baby wipes should go in the bin not down the toilet? Yes it says that some brands are flushable BUT not in NZ.
- Did you know that cooking oil clogs drains? The best way to dispose of oil is to collect it in a plastic bottle as you use it and when the bottle is full then you put it in the bin.
- Did you know that dental floss clogs drains? It gets snagged on the pipes and can block them. Better to put it in the bin.
We learned much more about drains and what is good for our waterways and wetlands. Just ask us.
We made pledges to keep too!
