Week 2

This week we had our second dance session for our Arts Rotation with the other Puriri Wha classes. We learned that there are 5 types of jumps and we used these jumps to create 16 count dance routines. Here are a few photos of the groups performing for the class. Remembering all the moves was very hard!

It was the Veges Group's turn to cook for the class this week. We tried some wonderful Indian fusion food. Here is the link to the Garden to Table recipes if you would like to try them at home.
Meanwhile in the garden, the Fruit Group learned about the different herbs and vegetables we are growing.

End of term discos are always a fun time to get together with our friends and socialise. This term's theme was "Favourite Colours."

Learning Chats
Thank you to everyone for participating in our learning chats. I was very proud of the way the children presented their learning and there was a lot of positive feedback from the children themselves. I have emailed the slides presentations to you but if you haven't received your child's by now please email me for it.
Early next term we will be setting our goals for Term 3 and these will be added to the slide presentations.

Wishing you all a safe and enjoyable holiday!

Community Garden Visit - Hendon Ave

On Tuesday the weather held out for us and we were able to spend the morning at the community gardens with Heather and Trudy. They had organised four activities for us - planting, building, painting and cooking stewed rhubarb and apple. It was a great opportunity to be outdoors and we are looking forward to visiting again later this year.
If you haven't already been to the garden please pop down during the holidays.

Science Wow Week - Bouncing Balls

The Puriri Wha classes finished off our Science Focus for this term  with a rotation. Here are a couple of videos of the experiment the children did with me.
They were asked to observe and think about what happens when they:
1. drop a basketball and a tennis ball on the ground from the same height.
2. place the tennis ball on top of the basketball and drop them
3. place a ping pong ball on top of the tennis ball which is on top of the basketball.

Unfortunately I couldn't video a successful bounce but there was lots of excitement and laughter when groups worked out how to get the balls bouncing.
Try this experiment at home, making sure you are doing it away from windows and gutters, and write a comment below about what you observed.

Note: the countdown is necessary 😁
