WEEK 8

Hi everyone!!

  • Congratulations to Gina, Samantha, Kylah and Alan who all participated in the Weetbix Tryathlon at Manly Beach over the weekend. I was very proud of you all!
  • This Wednesday and Thursday are our Outdoor Education Days. A final notice will be sent home today with more details about the Outdoor Education so please check your child's school bag. It is very important that the children have water bottles, hats and sunscreen for Wednesday and Thursday.
  • There is no school on Friday due to Easter.

Race Relations Day

On Friday we celebrated Race Relations Day Owairaka Style. Most of the class came dressed in costumes either from their own culture or from another.
We were lucky to have Ariella's mum, Flo, tell us a story from Samoa. Afterwards we looked at taonga from different parts of the world. Ana showed us her ta'ovala and explained what it was made of.
At lunchtime we shared the food we brought in, from different cultures, with the rest of the school. The rain didn't deter us from enjoying the feast!
Finally we spent the afternoon weaving kente patterns from Africa. We learned that Senga is an expert at weaving 😀
What a great day of learning we had!!

Community Garden Visit

This morning Room 21 visited our local community gardens in Owairaka Park. We spent the first block mulching, weeding and adding to the bug hotel. Well done to all our hard workers!!

Crazy Hair Day

Wow! What an event! The children looked amazing with their very funky hairdos. Thank you for supporting this fundraiser that raised over $680 for the Leukaemia and Blood Cancer Foundation.
After our special assembly we did some crazy hair art which we will finish before bringing them home.

Our pastel portraits and personal pepeha are amazing.

Our instructors take the class for lessons twice a week.

Everyone has set goals for this term.
