Week 10

We've done it!

Term 1 has been challenging for everyone but we managed to get through it. We finish at 3pm on Wednesday, our last day of the term. Thursday is a teacher only day.

Over the 2 week holiday break please encourage your child to read each day. Everyone will be given a holiday reading log this week. If you are finishing the term early please pick one up from the office.

Have a safe and peaceful holiday everyone!

Busy Week 9

 All About Whales:

Here are a few examples from our Green Week tasks -

Thank you to everyone who is bringing wrapper free lunches to school. Here are a couple of fantastic lunchbox role models.
A few great ways of reducing packaging in lunchboxes are:
1. Using small containers to hold small items.
2. Using lunch boxes with separate containers.
3. Buying products with less packaging.

This week the class visited the pattern project and were able to add to one of the patterns.

We were very privileged to have a visit from one of our local heroes, Andrew, who is a firefighter and parent of one of our Puriri students.

Congratulations to Samara and Niko who received our Caught Being Good certificates at this week's team assembly.

Tanabata

A few weeks ago Puriri Team were invited to write some wishes for the Tanabata Festival Wishing Tree. Thank you Akiko Diegel for sharing a part of your Japanese culture with us.

Here are some of our wishes:

The Wishing Tree has been on display as part of the Whau Festival this weekend.

Green Week

The focus for this term's Green Week is Whales. Last week we watched a presentation from Project Jonah where we learned about the different types of whales that live in our oceans. Did you know that we have a whale in the Hauraki Gulf? The Bryde's Whale!
This week we will complete an inquiry about the Bryde's and other whales. On Friday we will be dressing in Green (or blue) to celebrate Green Week.

The school value for the next two weeks is Kaitiakitanga. Some important reminders for us are:
  • reduce the amount of waste we have in our lunch boxes by reducing packaging
  • clean plastic containers e.g. yoghurt pottles before putting them in the recycling bin
  • use the back of unused photocopies instead of throwing them away
On Wednesday our class will be having a waste free lunch box day. There will be spot prizes for being waste free.

Have a great week everyone!

Digital Learning Update

Each Friday we have been learning about smart ways to use our Chromebooks as tools for learning. Here are a few of the things we have created:

Kawa of Care posters by Finley, Daanya and Furtuna

Fish by Xavier, Thaddeus, Blessing and Samara

Whale animations by Niko and Leo. (The autoplay may be a little slow)

Thank you to Phil Margetts, from Ako Hiko who has been helping us to learn, create & share.
