From today, Monday 30 March, until Wednesday 15th April are the holidays but I know some of you enjoyed our first week activities so I have posted the week 2 sheet for you to try some of the activities from. You don't have to do them all!
Don't forget to send your activities through to me so I can post them on the blog after the holidays. And enjoy your Easter eggs, we are going on an egg hunt in the back yard this year.

Dear Mrs Mudgway,
In the lockdown I have been doing lots of things. Here are some things I have been doing in lockdown.
1. I have done some Matific and I have done it every day.
2. I am reading one of my duffey books.
3. I have gotten in touch with Deacon and Xavier today.
4. I have made a scavenger hunt for my mum and dad off the worksheet for week one.
5. I have also done a paper aeroplane challenge from the worksheet for week one.
6. I have been doing splash math.
7. I have been doing typing club but not my school one because my typing club is a different one.
8. I have done a walk every day and sometimes I go on my scooter.
That is everything I have been doing for the first week of lock down.
I hope you have had a good first week in lock down.
From Leo.

What have you been doing?
Dad and Harry are reading by torch in the dark under the blanket – favourite activity so far….
Wonderful photos Harry! Who else is doing this?
At our house we painted rocks and did a cool science experiment with milk, food colouring and a cotton bud dipped in detergent.
Send me photos (mmudgway@owairaka.school.nz) so we can share in our blog.

Aotearoa History
I was going to share these video clips with you as part of this term's topic of Whakatomene - Past and Present. Parents may be interested in learning about our history along with you. Click the picture to watch .
Something Old and Something New
Something Old: Matific
Your goal is to complete as much of the Schoolwork map as you can. I have rearranged the activities so that the simpler ones are at the beginning. If you get stuck ask me for help.
Something New: Handwriting
Here is a link to help practise letter shape, size and starting points. You can practise the letters on lines. The letter k is different but fine to learn. Happy handwriting!

David Walliams audios
We love David Walliams books!! I have only just started reading "The Beast in Buckingham Palace" to the class and will have to wait until we get back to find out more.
To fill the gap David Walliams is releasing a new audio, and it's free, every day for 30 days. Today's audio is called "The Terrible Triplets" from "The World's Worst Children". Happy listening!

Howick Village Trip
Our photos of our Howick Village trip are on display in the classroom. Please pop in and read our captions and the comparisons we made between New Zealand in 1850 and now.
The children were asked to find out when their families first settled in New Zealand and we have had some amazing dates. Lochie's family came to NZ in 1827.
Cricket skills session
We were very lucky to have had a session with Elliot, from Auckland Cricket, today. He taught us a great game called tornado cricket which we will be playing over the next two weeks.
Our Class Stars
Tu meke Dayelle and Jed for your sensational attitudes to swimming this term! We are very proud of you both.

Swimsation Sessions
Here are the photos I took of our final session with the Swimsation coaches. We will continue to swim a couple of times each week until the weather gets cooler or there are more non-swimmers in the class than swimmers.
This week (9 March - 13 March) we are swimming Monday and Friday. Puriri Team have a lunchtime swim on Thursday.

Week 4 Update
Congratulations to Luka and Litiane, our classroom stars last week, who were caught being good. Well deserved you two!
We are almost finished with our 10 day intensive swimsafe coaching sessions. This week the children have been practising their survival skills using life jackets.

Today we were very privileged to be visited by Riley, the star of Young Ocean Explorers, whose website we have been accessing during our Reading sessions.
She has encouraged us to pick up at least one piece of plastic every day to keep rubbish out of our harbour. We even got to have a photo taken with her afterwards. Deacon is holding up his Young Ocean Explorers book that Riley signed when she was younger, and signed again today.
Have you noticed the blue and green? That's because it's Green Week! Wrapper Free Lunches Day tomorrow. We can do it 😁
Paper Chain Challenge
Every fortnight we spend an afternoon designing and creating using materials in our Makers' Space. This last week the children worked in groups of 3 to create the longest paper chain they could, out of 2 pieces of paper.
The longest paper chain was a whopping 4 metres long!! You can see it hanging on our classroom wall. Congratulations to Luka, Lochie and Jed on your amazing engineering ⭐⭐⭐
